I absolutely LOVE most British sweets, and they weren’t always easy to come by in the US. Before marrying an Englishman I think the closest I’d come the British chocolate was a Cadbury Egg at Easter time.
If you aren’t familiar with British Chocolate, I would suggest that you acquaint yourself immediately. When my husband moved to the US he moaned (read: complained) about the taste of Hershey’s while making s’mores on our first camping trip. He said it reminded him of “Holiday Chocolate”, something you’d get out of an advent calendar. I had never thought much about it, Hershey’s was synonymous with chocolate to me.
WOW, was I surprised by how good British chocolate is! For our first Christmas Benny’s Mum sent over a veritable feast of English treats! I was completely hooked, and savored every last piece! To my delight, Benny wasn’t a huge fan of my FAVORITE candy which is the Eclairs. I held onto to those puppies as long as I could (Mum sent me 3 bags!) Eating the last one in June, before Benny was headed out for a visit home. Needless to say he was sent with a shopping list!
We found a little shop that sells British foods near our home, but it was very pricey, which is understandable due to importing. We looked online and it was all expensive too. In the more recent years Amazon has picked up several products, that are reasonably priced, and give that taste of home when you’re looking for it.
“Taste of Britain”
Let’s jump right in with a full box of candy bars, I mean, we aren’t practicing right?! (An old gent behind us in line said that when the clerk asked us if we wanted the big bottle of gin on our last trip to England– “Course they want the big bottle, they aren’t practicing are they?!”)
Get “a little taste of Britain” with 10 full size candy bars from Nestle. This box has 10 full size bars and is a great price, about what you’d pay at the corner shop in England!
Cadbury Selection Box of 10 Full Size British Chocolate Bars
These are NOTHING like American Smarties, I cannot stress that enough. These are similar to M&M’s, but with yummier chocolate and deliciously flavored shells. Made by Nestle since the 1930’s, Smarties contain no artificial coloring or flavoring. The natural flavours come from fruit and veg including lemon, radish, red cabbage, orange oil, Hibiscus and Spirulina–Don’t that scare you, they are perfection! And, at 5 calories a piece and all natural, these little treats are guilt-free delight!
I put the bucket up, because yes, you need the bucket. These little babies are soooo good, with their light fluffy crunchy centers and just the right amount of milk chocolate on the outside. I almost hate to say it, but these are what I would describe as a FAR superior Whopper.
Heroes tub! Chock full o favorites: Dairy Milks, Wispas, Twirls, and my favorites–Eclairs!
Cadbury – Heroes Tub
It’s like the Holidays in a tub! Nothing says Christmas like grabbing the Celebrations and passing them around (or hoarding all the Malteasers!) By January there will be nothing but a few stray Milky Ways. These are NOT like an American Milky Ways, and my least favorite. Oddly enough, the Mars is very similar to a U.S. Milky Way.
Oooooh, the LOVE Hamper!
Looking for a great gift? Cadbury’s Love Hamper with all her favorites; Roses, Flake, Wispas, Double Decker, Heroes and more. A truly decadent treat.
Cadbury Love Hamper British Chocolates
Same delicious Dairy Milk, in the shape of Freddo the Frog!
This is like nothing I’d ever tasted in the US. Little flaky ribbons of super thin chocaolate, has a beautiful bite and melts in your mouth. Famous for being stuck in the top of a Mr. Whippy or a “99”, a vanilla soft serve gelato cone.
A party favorite! Bit of a mixed bag, these chocolate coated candies have surprising middles. Originally, Revels had orange creme, coconut, toffee, or peanut centers, along with Galaxy Counters (Minstrels without the hard shell) and Maltesers. Sadly, the coconut centers were later replaced with coffee creme, and the peanuts with raisins.
Cadbury Dairy Milk–the Pinnacle of Chocolate

We aren’t personally big fans of licorce flavor, but many Brits are. Licorice Allsorts are a staple for those who crave that signature flavor, and chances are you’ve seen these bad boys somewhere, probably your Gran’s.
